It’s been a big week at NAB for Apple… some new products: Final Cut Pro HD, Motion, DVD Studio Pro 3, Shake 3.5 and Logic Pro 6. Some nice stuff…
The technology of the day is definitely HD, all of the packages support it. I haven’t had a chance to look at the DVD Studio Pro update, but Motion looks very cool.
Motion does look cool.
I remember reading a tutorial from a dude who authored a DVD using a beige 266MHz G3 and some Astarte software. (At the time I had just bought my 300MHz G3). His advice was that this was the ‘bare minimum’ required to author a DVD and that he did not recommend others try it because the encoding took him 20 hours – but more than that – several failed attempts and ultimately about 8 weeks of work to burn a single 30 minute vacation video.
Anyway, we finally have machines that can edit video, encode M2V, and burn DVD – but in my opinion, they are the real “bare minimum” (assuming a 1GHz G4 or better.) And now HD comes along…
I wouldn’t want to attempt HD on anything but a dual G5… And even then, future apples will probably be better suited to HD.
